This space has really changed since first buying our home… Let’s take a walk down memory lane. The rustic orange-red walls weren’t bad, just not our style, or what would flow for the rest of our home.

One of the very first projects I tackled was taking down the lighting fixture, painting it silver, and hanging it up higher, since we wouldn’t be using the room as a formal dining.
The room also needed some curtains.. My iMac faces towards the windows, and I was in major need of less light hitting the monitor when working & editing. Hanging them brought us to this look;
Once it was time to explore paint colors, Erik & I thought we had “the one” chosen… This was the madness when I was priming and starting to paint;
It definitely wasn’t “the” paint color. The color itself wasn’t all that bad, it just seemed way too baby blue for this space. The couple of days that I had to leave it before repainting drove me nuts
To flow w/ the rest of the house, I really wanted a gray-blue… Not too gray, but not too blue either. Time to buy some sample colors.. These looked way more green once put on the walls.
After searching and searching online for some ideas, I came across gray’s river by Ace, and loved it;
And here we are now!.. It’s the perfect tone of blue-gray. I love how the white crown moulding & door way mouldings pop against the darker color. This room gets a ton of light, so the dark really doesn’t make the space feel too small or dark. The next task is the couches, and I haven’t decided if I want to attempt to slip cover them, or sell & buy different.
This room is just off to the left of our front door & entry.
You can see more about the wall collage here.
And this is my office. There may some little things that I continue to change, but for the most part, I enjoy working in this area. It’s open to the rest of our home, and I love that the kids have room to play in here, the front sitting room, or around the corner in the family room.
This is a view of how the front sitting room looks into the rest of the house. Through my office, the kitchen is to the left/behind the wall w/ the buffet piece, and our dining area to the right.
It’s always the little touches that make me happiest though.. The auqa colors really tie this room to the rest of the house. I had been eyeing these curtains (from Lowes) for awhile, and I absolutely love the pattern. The pillow slip covers are from Hobby Lobby. I picked the burlap lamp up a couple of weeks ago, and it adds just the right amount of “rustic/cottage”.
Love your projects! You have great taste!
I love this color blue. I can't find any reference at paint stores or online for gray's river by Ace….I am trying to find something close but struggling.
Hi Michelle,
I had the paint color mixed at a local Lowe's… Just take in the color and they can look it up; http://www.myperfectcolor.com/en/color/275846_Ace…
