Never thought I’d say this… But I love doing picture collages. I love mixing & matching frames to come up w/ the layout. We have a lot more wall space in this home, so after completing the stairway wall collage, I wanted to do more! This is how that turned out, and every. single. time. I go up & down those stairs, which if you’re a parent to three kids, it’s a LOT, it makes my heart smile.
And here is the newest collage in our front sitting room. This is going to be our extended family wall.. Grandparents, family, etc. Now I’m just waiting for the prints I ordered to come in so I can fill the frames. All of the frames are a combination from Ikea & Hobby Lobby.
I have found the most simple way for myself is to measure the space I’m working w/, then start playing w/ layouts on the floor below the wall. I’m totally a visual person, and need to see how the layout feels. I don’t always need symmetry, but I still like balance. When I had the frames laid out, I snapped an image w/ my iPad so I could reference their locations.
I then used wrapping paper to trace the shapes of my frames, and taped them to the wall in the same layout as the image on the iPad.
The paper shape has a number that coordinates w/ the number that I wrote on the back of the frame. One by one, I took the paper frame down, placed over the frame to mark where the wall nail would need to go.
Tape the paper back up, and drill your hole & anchor or nail in your nail;
And done! 🙂
