I came across some information recently that was absolutely fascinating.. It’s all about how babies cry, and recognizing patterns in the cry to figure out what the cry is indicating. I found the video below on youtube, and couldn’t wait to test the woman’s theories out on Mr. Rowen.. Sure enough, they have been very accurate! For those who don’t have time to watch the entire video, in summary, there are 5 cries that are significant for all babies 0-3 months. This applies to babies of all races, gender, culture, etc. because they are reflex & instinct.
These are the sounds;
Neh: hunger, watch for the distinct “Nnnnn” sound in the cry
Owh: tired, mouth will typically form an O, yawning shape
Eh: burp, this is the reflex for trying to push the burp out
Eairh: gas, sounds similar to “eerrrrrr” or “air”
Heh: uncomfortable, watch for the “H” sound, heh heh or ha ha, can indicate hot/cold, diaper, position
The biggest part of determining the cry, is listening closely before the baby gets too upset. If you’ve got a new baby, I’d love to hear if you hear these sounds too!
