Homemade Gingerbread Play Dough…

We made this on Christmas Eve, and Ashlyn couldn’t have been more excited.. As if playing w/ play dough wasn’t enough fun in itself, the smell was scrumptious!

Here is the recipe that we used;

Gingerbread Play Dough
1 c flour
1/2 c salt
2 tsp cream of tartar
about 1/2 c of spices (we used pumpkin spice, cinnamon, & nutmeg)
1 c water
1 tsp oil

In a sauce pan, mix all of the dry ingredients, then add water & oil.  Cook on low to medium for several minutes, stirring constantly.  It will start to thicken, and darken in color.  It is done once it starts to take on a dough like consistency, and pull from the sides of the pan.

Ashlyn & my mom had a blast…

1.  Ah… the close of another Christmas season..  Hope yours was full of joy & laughter!

2.  I’m on the hunt for a new Christmas tree.. Erik thinks I’m nuts.  lol  We’ve only had our current one for two or three years, but some of the pre-lit lights keep going out, and I actually have my heart set on a different style.  Now, the only problem is finding the new one!  This is the style of branches/tree I’m looking for;

3.  I love walking down our hallway and seeing this;

4.  One of my gifts that I loved was a jewelry organizer that hangs, from my mil.  I’m always giddy over anything that organizes!

5.  I’ve got some holiday moo-lah to spend.. Thinking I will get a new crockpot.  Mine only has high, low, and warm settings, so I’d love one that is programmable, and w/ a locking lid.  Guess I’m a grown-up now, since I’m spending my “fun money” on kitchen appliances:P

6.  Do you do after Christmas shopping?  I stocked up on wrapping paper, some treat containers, two tree skirts, and some other decor.

7.  I posted last year about finding some great prices on gifts.

8.  I can’t help but think that we’re almost through December and haven’t really had any now… Just a couple of brief dustings that quickly melted away.

9.  New Year’s is right around the corner… Any resolutions?

10.  This was a mini-session I did w/ Rowen for the picture for his first birthday invite.. More of these to come soon;

Black Friday & Christmas Decorating…

One of my favorite days of the year!  WhooooHoooo!  The game plan for this year originally started w/ meeting around 3am as usual for our annual shopping on Black Friday.  Two of my girlfriends, (ah hem) however, decided to switch it up a bit.. I got a text to meet them out, when I had just sat down at 9pm Thanksgiving evening to look at the ads.  I thought I’d meet them for an hour or so, head home for a few hours of sleep, then meet back up early in the morning hours.  Um, wrong.  Who woulda thought this girl could make it shopping ALL.  night.  long.  Yowza.. We did it though, and had a blast as usual!  Maybe not as many steals & deals this year as the previous, but laughter & girl time is always a win.

As tradition, we take down all of the fall decor and get out the Christmas decorations.  The kids look forward to this just as much as I do.. We play holiday music, and enjoy each others’ company.  I step back and let the girls decorate the tree by themselves… Even my ocd brain let’s it slide when Ashlyn puts three (or more) ornaments on the same branch..

Baby brother had fun “helping” the girls too… I think his favorite ornament was the jingle bells;
I love seeing how much the kids have grown since the last Christmas tree decorating..
