Stock up on Gifts!

I read recently about an idea that I really enjoyed..   If you have school aged children, then chances are they are invited to birthday parties of their friends, classmates, etc.  Often times when you add up the $10-$20 spent on gifts for each of those parties, it adds up, and fast!  A solution to still giving the great gifts that our kiddos love, is to watch the sales & stock up!  I look for age appropriate games and crafts that I know Kaylor would love, which means her friends should enjoy too. Then when the time comes for a party, I can pull out my “stock of kid gifts” for her to choose from, and done!  This doubles for coming in handy so you’re not rushing at the last minute to go gift shopping.

After holidays is a great time to do this.  For example, right now Amazon.com has toys up to 70% off!  I did so today, and bought four gifts w/ retail prices totaling $62.96  for just $21.96.  Four gifts, done!

Let me know if you try this out too…  This can obviously be done for others too, not just kids.. I’d love to hear what great deals you find:)

Christmas 2010…

What a great year 2010 has been, and the holiday season could not have been better as well.  With the beautiful snow falling all day on Christmas eve, and the excitement that was bursting at the seams from the girls, I’m convinced that there is nothing better than watching Christmas through your children’s eyes.. Even while on unexpected bedrest this holiday season, we still enjoyed all of our normal traditions.  I LOVE having them w/ our kids!  I have random memories come to mind from childhood from different holidays, and I’m so thankful for them.  I hope that our kids will some day be able to do the same, and pass them on to their own children.  I couldn’t help but constantly feel an overwhelming amount of thankfulness all throughout our gatherings.  We are so, so fortunate to be provided for by such a loving God!

Christmas Eve I showed Kaylor how to make a treat.. She was super proud to be able to do these;

My mom & brother, Brodie always stay w/ us on Xmas eve, so we had pizza together for dinner, then the girls opened their one gift that they receive each year.  New pj’s;

This year I read about a fun activity to do w/ kids, so we tried it out for the first time and it was a big hit!  We made “reindeer food” which consisted of dry oats, and glitter sprinkled in.  Then you shake it up in your baggie and sprinkle it on your lawn so that the reindeer can spot it shimmering from the sky for Santa to find you.  In pj’s and all, we snuck outside for a quick minute to sprinkle the “food”.. Both girls loved it!  (Ashlyn forgot how cold snow is apparently, and wasn’t thrilled when we were heading in and got some on her hands..hence the pouty face in the last pic.. lol)

Later into the evening, my mom & I spent some time in the kitchen preparing our breakfast for Christmas morning.. This has also become a tradition that I love doing.  I was seated comfortably at the island while my mama used the stovetop and brought me ingredients to work w/.  We made homemade cinnabon dough & icing for monkey bread, and an egg casserole to put in the fridge for overnight.  The only thing that had to be made Xmas morning, was hash-browns.. MmmMmm!…

I really think I was worse than the girls this year, as I was waking up constantly throughout the night to see what time it was.. Anticipation was getting the best of me!  The girls stirred around 7:15am, and we got up and moving around 7:30. I figured that was pretty darn good, since I’d been seeing Facebook updates since THREE am that people were up w/ their kiddos! lol

Ten on Tuesday 12/28…

1.  I love opening up a fresh, new, sparkly clean planner for the new year.. (okay, maybe not sparkly, but you get the point)

2.  What New Year’s resolutions do you have for 2011?  I’d love to hear them!

3.  New blog post over on Rated Pg… That blog won’t be hoppin’ too much longer!

4.  I’d love to start doing a Yoga class once I’m released for fitness activities after the baby is born… Who’s with me?

5.  We’re also thinking about selling our elipitical and going back to the Nordic Track treadmill.  Love the eliptical and it’s in excellent condition.

6.  I realized when sorting & purging toys of the girls’ to make room for their newest ones, I have an OCD about sorting & categorizing things.  Kaylor has this storage system w/ fabric cubes, and Ashlyn has this, and I found myself having to make sure that each cube/tub had their matched items in them.  I.e. video games, electronics in one, crafts in another, doll accessories in its own, etc.  What can I say, I love organization!

7.  I love my husband.  Dearly.

8.  Holiday traditions make me smile.. From the inside out!

9.  For Christmas, I received & met Gertrude.. It was love at first sight.. More about her later:P

10.  Mm….. Kisses & M&Ms…

Fun Xmas Tree lights…

I LOVE having Christmas lights strung around the house… I keep hopefully wishing that it’s “okay” to have them up year round.. lol  For now though, I’ll just enjoy them while I can..

Photo a Day

(this challenge started to take a backseat, but I think I’ll be forgiven, with that whole bedrest thing & all, right? lol)

I love little pieces of our kiddos throughout the house.. Even if it means everything isn’t always organized!  These foam letters were on the wall after a quick, warm bath to rid Ashlyn of her fever last Sunday..
